light boxes

Nearly as important as the actual design is how you present the final product. In preparation for exit portfolio review, I knew I had to do something to properly capture my work on camera. After much discussion and research I made my own light box by loosely following this guide:  http://www.ninthandbird.com/2011/12/diy-photo-light-box-take-better-photos.html
I also learned quite a bit about photograph product shots and camera raw settings. Thanks Michelle and Liz for the insights!

website

One of my projects was a personal portfolio style website. Here's the link: BeckiMclean.com
Luckily, I remember some coding principles from high school many moons ago. The square tiles no longer crowd each other and my personal branding highlights the header bar. Take a moment to browse through my past projects. I wasn't overly verbose describing the projects. I feel that it opens the door for future conversations.

Screenprinting

I felt like this past semester, my last one at Georgia State University, dealt a lot with experimentation. I did things that I always wanted to do, but hadn't made the time for. I tried a lot of new things, most of which didn't work, but that's the point of experimentation. I tried my hand (or logo) at screen printing. I found this blog to be extremely helpful. The instructions that came with my initial kit were lackluster and didn't answer a lot of questions concerning photo emulsion and exposure time. As I searched for clarity on the company's website, I stumbled upon this website and it helped me turn a confusing mess into something beautiful. Thank you!

My final product, though not on it's final medium. You'll have to wait for exit review Stan.

History Illustrations

My talented uncle and friend is writing a history book and he asked me to do the illustrations. So I did, and here is the semi-final result. I'm going to revisit these once graduation is over and I've got a few less things on my plate.

Resume

As a designer, I think that my personal resume has been the hardest thing to finalize. I keep wanting to tweak this and change that. However, at some point, I need to stop. So here's the version that it is right now. But next week, it might be different.

7 Sins of Parenting

I created these 7 sins cards. These images show front and back. Each sin comes with a small paragraph explaining the cover.

Amazing cinema 4d tutorials

I'm the kind of person who doesn't really like to sit through a five minute intro. I'd rather just have a quick diagram of where to click. This channel on Youtube is great for just quick things to learn in Cinema 4d:

Personal Voice

This project was all about me. Again. I like me and all, but I have a hard time talking about myself. I always fear that I'm bragging even if I'm not. So my personal voice, when I'm not talking about me, likes to rant. It'll take a frustrating event and turn it into a funny story. I like to make people laugh. So I took one of the most frustrating things in my life, traffic, and used my son's voice (thanks Kole), to create this humorous take on Atlanta traffic.

Enjoy it here:

Promax BDA Student Challenge

The challenge: Tell complete strangers all about your inner designer and who you are in less than 90 seconds. I don't know about you, but I couldn't sum that up in 90 minutes. So I simplified the challenge to what sets me, just as a person, apart from lots of other people. I wrote the script and tried to think of very dynamic transitions so the viewer would go "wow" or "oooh" or "aaahhhh" instead of making no sound at all. No one likes field mice. Except maybe little bunny foo foo.

So I wrote about some strange things that have happened in my life, be on regular occasion, or just once. Yes, I did move a tree off the road. It was dead and dried out, so no, I don't have superpowers. So, without further ado, the video:
